Our Story

Yulgro is a Northern Ireland brand with roots in agriculture, a passion for machinery and a growing ambition for manufacturing and product development.

Our journey began in 2003 with the establishment of Unique Garden Products, supplying a wide range of products to garden centres and commercial nurseries.

Through years of trading, we developed valuable knowledge of the horticultural industry, built relationships with customers and gained an understanding of the importance of products that are practical, reliable and fit for purpose.

But alongside supplying products, there was always an ambition to create our own.

Built on Practical Experience

The foundations of Yulgro lie in a farming background and a lifelong interest in understanding how things work.

Growing up on a beef and sheep farm in Northern Ireland, our founder developed practical skills through working with machinery, repairing equipment and finding solutions to everyday problems.

This experience was complemented by a Bachelor of Agriculture (BAgr) degree from Queen's University Belfast, together with work across agriculture, manufacturing and horticulture.

Two years working for a chemical company supplying the horticultural industry also provided valuable insight into the challenges facing commercial growers.

These varied experiences helped establish a straightforward philosophy: understand the problem, explore the possibilities and find a practical solution.

The Move into Manufacturing

Our manufacturing journey began with the purchase of a machine originally used to make cardboard boxes.

Interestingly, the machine was purchased before we had even decided what we were going to manufacture.

That willingness to experiment eventually led to the development of our Pot Toppers.

In 2013, increasing restrictions on certain herbicides were creating challenges for commercial nurseries across Europe. Recognising the need for alternative approaches to weed control, we began developing Pot Toppers.

It was an important milestone, demonstrating how industry knowledge, machinery and practical thinking could come together to create a new product.

Establishing Yulgro

In 2017, the Yulgro brand was registered, creating an identity for our growing interest in manufacturing, innovation and product development.

While Pot Toppers remain an important part of our journey, Yulgro was never intended to be limited to one product.

Our ambition is to explore opportunities, develop ideas and create useful products using different materials and manufacturing methods.

Looking to the Future

We see Yulgro as a manufacturing brand with the flexibility to develop products for horticulture, agriculture and other industries.

We are interested in identifying problems, exploring new manufacturing opportunities and developing products that offer genuine practical or commercial value.

Our approach remains rooted in the same principles that started the journey: curiosity, determination, practical thinking and a willingness to try something different.

Based in Northern Ireland, Yulgro welcomes enquiries, ideas and potential business opportunities from across the UK, Ireland and internationally.
